10 Years ago today...

I fell and cut my face on a window ledge.  Don, Sonya and I spent the better part of the afternoon and evening at the ER.  The white you see in the wound is a paint chip from the window ledge.  This photo was taken by the plastic surgeon just before he cleand and sewed it up.  While he was cleaning it he pointed out to Don and Sonya that you could see my skull and then he proceeded to tap on it. It was one of the weirdest experiences of my life.

I was so lucky that Sonya was home and Don was there to drive to the hospital.  I had some pretty nice bruising and headaches for a few days.  When I got back to work they had bubble wrapped my whole desk and chair and put caution tape around it.  I know I have a picture of it somewhere but I can't seem to find it.  When I do I will update the post :)

10 years ago...

I was preparing to move up here from Salt Lake City, UT with my friend Sonya.  We had scoped out an apartment, found jobs at North Creek Analytical and were running around doing final preparations before moving.

On the drive up here we had a moving van, Sonya's truck and my car.   I am notorious for my inability to drive for any length of time, and this trip was no different.  Depending on whom you ask, I made it about an hour and a half or two hours before I was drifting off and called my Mom to take my place at the wheel of my car.  After the switch I believe I lasted about 2 seconds before I fell asleep in the cab of the moving truck with Don driving.

I don't remember much of the drive - just that I really wanted to get here.  Once we did - our apartment was on the 3rd floor in a complex in Kenmore, WA - we proceeded to unload.  At the time I had quite a large collection of VHS movies (over 400) and I am fairly sure that Don was ready to chuck them in the trash.  I also had quite a few boxes of books that I had packed without trying to lift - what a mistake.  My Mom and Don were amazing and we got it all unloaded so that Sonya and I could spend the weekend unpacking and getting settled before starting work on Monday.  

I love it here and I am so grateful for the support I had to get here.  It has been an amazing 10 years and hopefully it will be many, many more.

40 Years ago...Joelle and the Moon

Forty years ago today my childhood best friend, Joelle was born and man landed on the moon.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOELLE!!!

It's amazing to me that I remember her birthday even though I haven't seen her for many, many years.  I am sure that I only remember the exact date due to the moon walk, but we had so many great times when we were kids that it could just be the great memories. 

Too bad all of the places where we loved to hang out are gone.  We are sooo old.  I remember fondly spending the night at your place so that we could watch 'R' rated movies on HBO, walking to 8th Ave Grocery for candy and walking to Deseret Gym.

I am glad to know you and hope you birthday is a great one.  Love to you and your family.
